Text Box:

Chalise Fisher of Boise, Idaho is an aspiring actress, soccer player, and sings in her church choir, “Angelic Voices.” She is a member of Brownie Scouts, and has also been student of the month every year since kindergarten.  Chalise, now a third-grader, is a graduate of Head Start.  She is a dynamic young lady who not only writes movies, stories and songs, but also stars on a TV show called “Bits and Pieces” on the public access channel, TVTV 11.  An accelerated student who is well thought of by her teachers, Chalise is also very civic-minded; she even assisted her grandmother in running a campaign.
Chalise’s mother, Denise Fisher, Chair of the Board of Directors for Friends of Children and Families Head Start, describes the services that she received from Head Start as “vital.”  When the family relocated from Houston to Boise due to Denise’s health issues, they arrived without money, job, or car. Denise describes how being invited to give input in Chalise’s first educational experiences through Policy Council empowered her, and being invited to serve on the board was a “surprise,” although the organization she serves knows her as an invaluable asset.
Chalise and Denise are a vibrant mother and daughter pair, and an excellent example of the confidence that Head Start engenders in its participants to go out and shine in the community.
